3-Minute Skills Challenge – Overview

You have 5 minutes to complete as many of the 3 skill stations as possible.
Each station allows 7 chances to score as many points as you can.

Start by selecting your first skill station and complete all 7 reps before moving on. Once your 7th ball is completed, quickly proceed to the next station of your choice.

🧠 Things to Keep in Mind

  • You are not required to complete all 3 skills but 3 minutes is plenty of time to do it.
You may focus your time on one or two if preferred.

  • For the hitting challenge, a volunteer will load the balls onto the tee after each swing — helping you stay focused and save time.

  • During the fielding challenge, grounders will only be rolled when you are set and ready — no rushed throws.

  • For the pitching challenge, you will not earn points for hitting the same square more than once.

🎯 1. Drop Shot Sniper

Objective: Stand at home plate while a ball is placed on a tee for each of your 7 swings. Use precision and placement to hit into designated hot zones — either coned lanes or elevated hoops.

You may hit the same target or zone repeatedly. You do not need to hit all zones to complete the challenge.

Setup:

  • Tee-based hitting station

  • 7 hit attempts

  • Ground cone lanes:

    • 5–6 hole

    • 3–4 hole

    • 1st & 3rd base lines (must stay fair)

  • 2 Elevated ring targets placed behind the 5–6 and 3–4 lanes

Scoring:

  • 2 pts – Hit through ground cones (5–6 or 3–4 hole)

  • 5 pts – Clean shot down 1st or 3rd base line (in fair territory)

  • 10 pts – Hit through elevated ring targets

  • 70 pts max for this challenge

🧤 2. Grip & Rip It

Objective: From the shortstop position, field 7 grounders cleanly. As each ball is rolled, a judge will call out either “1st!” or “3rd!” — you must quickly field and throw to the corresponding pitching net target behind that base.

Points are awarded for both clean fielding and hitting the correct target net.

Setup:

  • 11” softballs

  • Pitching nets set up behind 1st and 3rd base

  • A judge randomly calls “1st!” or “3rd!” as each grounder approaches the fielder

Scoring:

  • 1 pt – Clean field

  • 5 pts – Accurate throw to the correct net

  • 42 pts max for this challenge

🥎 3. Tic-Tac-Toe Pitching

Objective: From the pitching mound, players underhand toss 7 softballs toward a 3x3 target grid behind home plate. The goal is to hit unique squares without repeating. Earn extra points for 3-in-a-row or hitting all 7 different squares.

Setup:

  • 11” softballs

  • Custom pitching board angled like a cornhole ramp

  • 3x3 grid (9 square holes with netting)

Scoring:

  • 5 pts – Per square hit (must be unique)

  • +5 pts – Hit any 3 squares in a row (Tic-Tac-Toe style)

  • +10 pts – Hit all 7 unique squares

  • 55 pts max for this challenge
